Program Overview
ASN’s Overdose Prevention Team (OPT) is a community-based effort to connect people who experience an overdose with lifesaving resources and support. Those who have previously survived an overdosed are significantly more likely to experience another overdose. For that reason, early intervention is an important technique to prevent further harm and death.
The OPT is driven by ASN’s values of meeting people where they’re at, providing compassionate and non-judgmental care, empowering individuals to make their own health decisions, and offering evidence-based overdose prevention tools. Additionally, our peer support staff are trained in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and ensure that all are treated equitably by first responders.
Services include, but are no limited to:
- Immediate overdose response
- Case follow-up within 72 hours
- Harm reduction and overdose prevention education
- Connection to care, mental health services, and substance use treatment
- Access to lifesaving tools such as Narcan, fentanyl testing strips, and Suboxone treatment
